“NUAD BO RARN” or Ancient Massage as it is known in Thailand, is said to have begun its evolution in India, more than two thousand years ago by Shivago Komarpaj, a contemporary of the Buddha Gautama Siddhartha.
TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE is seen as a practical application of the Buddhist principle of Metta or loving kindness, forming the cornerstone of a quietly effective healing of body, mind and soul. Elements of Yoga and Ayurveda from India are combined with universal energy healing principles, to harmonize and balance the flow of energy throughout the body. It is performed with the client comfortably clothed on a special mat on the floor. Sessions usually last for at least two hours.
THAI YOGA MASSAGE THERAPY consists of a series of interactive, flowing movements, stretches and rhythmic massage, along all the body’s energy lines and pressure points. The often deeply meditative experience can result in a profound release from mental and physical stress. The practice can be quite stimulating when performed vigorously, causing the same after-exercise, “blissed-out” feeling of a good Yoga class. Or, it can be done gently, in a more soothing manner, depending on the restorative needs or mood of the client.
deonThai™ YOGA is an authentic, interactive, therapeutic and comprehensive system that evolved out of the many years of training and practical experience, as received in the traditional way, by its Founder, Senior Instructor and Practitioner, Deon de Wet, who is now dedicated to passing on, in the same way, the wisdom and practice of this highly effective ancient healing art.
Since this type of bodywork is done with very close client/therapist interaction, it is, when done correctly, suitable for body types of all ages, be they male, female, pregnant, healthy and fit, or tired and drained. The practice is always tailored to suit the individual and personal needs of the client.
Evolving for thousands of years from its Indian roots in Yoga and Ayurvedic medicine and during its journey through South East Asia to Thailand -and throughout its use and adaptation by indigenous Hill Tribes, Buddhist monks, mystics and shamans of all kinds, Traditional Nuad Bo Rarn Thai Massage has been passed on from teacher to student in the generous spirit of compassion and loving-kindness…and still continues on, as it now spreads rapidly through the Western world.
THAI YOGA TRAINING can be done in many ways, the most introductory of which is the (90 minute to 3 hour) Guided Partner CLASS, often taking place in a neighborhood Yoga Studio under the guiding instruction of a Thai Yoga teacher. Participants are talked through (along with an ongoing demonstration) various interactive moves and poses that are sequenced in a therapeutic flow. This could be very restorative on the one end of the scale as well as intense, athletic and even acrobatic, on the other, depending on the nature of the class.
This basic level is expanded by the (4 to 12 hours) Guided Partner WORKSHOP which includes more in-depth instruction and the use of a guidebook. These trainings are well suited for retreat type settings and could take place over the course of 2 or 3 days.
Then there is the Professional Practitioner Training Program that consists of various Foundation and Advanced level training courses with guidebooks and practice sessions that span the course of several days.
