CERTIFICATION PROCESS

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS FROM NCBTMB & YOGA ALLIANCE:

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION are awarded after satisfactory completion of any of the four courses in the Training Program:

The Essentials Course  (24 CE hours)
Lays the basic groundwork and focuses on working the energy lines on the legs, arms and back by applying Thai-style acupressure, with the client lying face-up, face down and seated.

The Fundamentals Course  (24 CE hours)
Also lays basic groundwork, but focuses on joint mobilizing and stretching with a series of assisted yoga movements with the legs and arms in a variety of positions.

The Comprehensive Course  (40 CE hours)
Integrates the foundation by combining the Essentials and Fundamentals sequences. Delves deeper into the combination of physical bodywork and meridian-based acupressure and energy work. Enhances your ability to work with intuition as well as using specific treatment sequences.

The Expanded Course (40 CE hours)
Brings in a whole new aspect of working with the client in the SIDE-LYING position.  You also learn an expanded series of supplemental techniques for the Prone, Supine and Seated situations.

All of the courses in the Training Program focus on building a sustainable practice where therapists use their whole body: including the feet, knees and elbows, as well as their hands (palms and thumbs).

CERTIFIED PRACTITIONER OF THAI YOGA MASSAGE:

A CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT can be earned by completing the above-mentioned four courses in the Training Program.

PLUS fulfilling the following ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Submission for evaluation and approval, at least 15 Documented Practice Sessions for the Essentials; 15 for the Fundamentals; and 10 for the Expanded Course, for a total of 40 sessions.
  • Showing evidence of having completed at least 15 hours of Anatomy & Physiology training.
  • Receiving at least one 2-hour treatment session from Deon.
  • Submission for evaluation and approval of one video, demonstrating the student practitioner performing most of the Comprehensive Course Sequence on a practice partner, OR
  • Performing a 2 hour treatment session on Deon de Wet, with live in-person evaluation and instruction.

 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

ESSENTIALS of Thai Yoga Massage – 24 CE hours

 

This 3-day course focuses on working the energy lines on the legs, arms and back by applying Thai-style acupressure, with the client lying face-up, face down and seated. This module complements the FUNDAMENTALS and forms a firm foundation for ongoing practice and study. You will be introduced to the theory, history and philosophy behind this highly effective healing system, but the emphasis of the class is mainly on practical application.

You Will Learn:

  • The basics of how to work with energy in the body, along with physical manipulation, acupressure and assisted stretching, enabling you to quickly help anyone feel much better.
  • How to use your whole body, including your feet, knees and elbows, as well as hands (palms and thumbs) to improve your client’s health and well-being.
  • How to use Yoga sessions to improve your own comfort, strength and flexibility, as you work towards safely practicing on most types of people from the moment you finish the course.

Credit: 24 Continuing Education Hours are granted for this course through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and Yoga Alliance for Contact Training Hours.

FUNDAMENTALS of Thai Yoga Massage – 24 CE hours

This 3-day course focuses on joint mobilizing and stretching with a series of assisted yoga movements.  Gentle rocking and acupressure is applied to the legs and arms in a variety of positions.  Client is mainly lying face-up and seated.  This module continues to lay the groundwork and complements the ESSENTIALS course. The objective is to get you safely practicing on most types of people as soon as the class is over, with a new ability gained to help them on their way to better health and well-being.

You Will Learn:

  • How to do detailed work on the individual client’s feet, legs, arms and hands, as well as some very effective techniques for the shoulders, chest and belly.
  • The basics of how to work with energy in the body along with physical manipulation, acupressure and assisted stretching, enabling you to quickly help anyone feel much better.
  • How to use your whole body, including your feet, knees and elbows, as well as hands (palms and thumbs) to provide relief and facilitate healing in all kinds of situations.
  • How to use Yoga to improve your own comfort, strength and flexibility, as you work towards safely practicing on most types of people, from the moment you finish the course.

Credits: 24 Continuing Education Hours are granted for each course through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and Yoga Alliance for Contact Training Hours.

COMPREHENSIVE Thai Yoga Massage – 40 CE Hours

This 5-day course combines and integrates the sequences taught in the ESSENTIALS and FUNDAMENTALS. It gives you advanced capability to work with intuition as well as using specific treatment sequences. We delve deeper into the integration of physical bodywork with meridian-based acupressure and energy work, teaching you how to apply a highly efficient combination of assisted Yoga and therapeutic healing massage.

You Will Learn:

  • A unique and comprehensive series of moves enabling you to offer authentic Thai Yoga Massage sessions lasting 3 hours or more.
  • How to arrange many different techniques in such a way to target all the different areas of the client’s body, giving you all the tools you need to facilitate deep healing on many different levels.
  • How to employ the client’s energy meridians and the practitioner’s focus on whole-body mechanics and Eight Limbs style practice to a much higher level of effectiveness and healing.
  • Certain practical philosophic concepts and theoretical foundations at an expanded and more comprehensive level, resulting in much better understanding of the concepts Seeing with the Hands and Feeling with the Heart.

Admission: There are no prerequisites for attending this course, but completion of at least one of the ESSENTIALS or FUNDAMENTALS, is recommended.

EXPANDED Thai Yoga Massage – 40 CE Hours

This 5-day course brings in a whole new aspect of working with the client in a different body-position: SIDE-LYING.  This way of working allows pregnant women, heavy clients or those with low-back issues a much more comfortable way of being within their bodies, in a session. In addition to a full sequence of treatment moves with the client in the SIDE-LYING position, you also learn an expanded series of supplemental techniques for the Prone, Supine and Seated positions. This course really opens the door to the ongoing exploration of Thai Yoga Massage and gives you even more methods to facilitate healing in many different types of client situations. As is the case in other courses in the deonThai METHOD Training Program, the emphasis is on enhancing practical application and focusing on a sustainable practice where practitioners use their whole body: including the feet, knees and elbows, as well as their hands (palms and thumbs).

You Will Learn:

  • How to perform a full-body treatment session with the client lying on his/her side and in the seated position.
  • New assisted stretches with meridian and pressure point therapy, as well as Eight Limbs style techniques where the therapist uses the feet, knees and elbows to save the palms and thumbs.
  • How to work in positions and in a style that is especially good for pregnant women and others who have difficulty lying on their backs.

Credit: 40 Continuing Education Hours are granted for this course through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) and Yoga Alliance for Contact Training Hours.

Admission: Although there are no prerequisites for this course, the techniques presented here are somewhat more advanced, so we do recommend completion of at least 3 days of Thai Massage training with any recognized teacher before enrolling.
